Terms of service

Last updated October 26, 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and Puts Email LLC, a New York limited liability company that runs Spes Publica (“we”, “us”). By using spesp.com you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use it.

You must be 18 or older to use Spes Publica.

Questions about these terms: support@spesp.com.

The service

Spes Publica is a web search. It shows results from its own index and from other search engines, which are separate companies. We don't control the websites in the results, and results can be wrong, out of date or offensive. What you do with a result is up to you.

Searching is free. When it's busy, free searches wait in line. We may change, add or remove features, and we may limit or pause the service, for example during maintenance or to deal with abuse. Spes Publica is in early development and open by invite.

Using it fairly

Don't:

  • use Spes Publica for anything illegal, or to harm other people;
  • send searches automatically or in bulk, scrape results, or resell access, unless we've agreed to it in writing;
  • attack, overload or probe the service, or try to get around its limits, its line or its stamps;
  • use someone else's account, codes or stamps without their permission.

We may block searches, connections or accounts that break these rules.

Accounts

You don't need an account to search. If you make one, keep your passkeys, password and recovery phrase safe. They are the only ways in: we can't reset a password or recover an account for you, and we can't restore access if you lose them all. See how accounts work.

You can stop using Spes Publica at any time. We may close an account that breaks these terms.

Stamps and codes

  • A stamp moves one search to the front of the line and adds a paid search source to it. Each search uses one stamp. Stamps are only for use on Spes Publica.
  • When you buy stamps you get a code worth that many stamps. A code works like cash: anyone who has it can use it. Keep it safe. Codes and stamps don't expire.
  • Stamps and codes have no cash value and can't be exchanged for money, except as described under Refunds.
  • Because stamps are built so we can't tell whose they are, we can't replace a lost or stolen code, or stamps lost when a browser's data is cleared. A stamp is used when its search starts, even if the search then fails.
  • Prices are in US dollars, as shown on the pricing page. They may change, but not for codes you've already bought.

Payments

Card payments are handled by our payment provider, which may sell stamps to you as the seller of record. Its own terms apply to the payment, and it adds any sales tax or VAT that applies where you live. We never see your card number.

Refunds

If you haven't used a code, you can have your money back within 30 days of buying it. Email support@spesp.com with the code and your receipt. We'll cancel the code and refund the full price to the way you paid.

Once any stamps from a code have been used, the code can't be refunded. Nothing here takes away rights you have under the law where you live.

Privacy

The privacy page says what we collect, why, and how long we keep it. It's part of these terms.

Our name and site

The Spes Publica name, logo, design and the text of this site are ours. Search results, and the pages they link to, belong to their owners.

No guarantees

We work to keep Spes Publica running well and its results useful, but it is provided as it is and as available, without warranties of any kind, as far as the law allows. We don't promise it will always be up, fast, free of errors, or that results will be accurate.

Limits on our liability

As far as the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost profits or data, arising from your use of Spes Publica or the sites in its results. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or $20.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. When we do, we'll change the date at the top, and for important changes we'll say so on the site before they take effect. If you keep using Spes Publica after a change, the new terms apply.

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York. Any dispute goes to the state or federal courts in New York, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring it there instead.
